Task creation in TurboHog was designed to be quick and fit around your workflow. Almost all parameters can be toggled with natural language in the task name field so that you don't have to manually click each parameter you want to set.
To add a new task, hit the “+ Add” button in the sidebar, or press “CMD/CTRL + Enter” on your keyboard to bring up the new task window.
From here, you can set the name of the task and each of the parameters with natural language in the task name field. You can also add a description with a checklist if your task has subtasks you want to track.
If your task is recurring, the description will carry through each instance of the task, but the checklist will reset on each instance. If you have a recurring task where each morning you complete a set of small tasks like ‘check emails,’ ‘review customer stats,’ etc., you can mark these off each day, and the following days will not be checked off.
The “What needs to be done?” field in the new task window is the task name. This field also supports natural language detection, which you can learn more about here.
If you need to add notes or context to a task, you can do so in the Description field. It supports basic text formatting, lists, links, and checklists.
You can also link out to attachments like images or videos that provide additional context for your task.
In the sidebar of the New Task window, you can tweak the parameters that will help define when and where the task is placed in your TurboHog dashboard/calendar.
The options with the most impact are: priority, schedule, deadline, and blockers. The other options shown also help determine where tasks land on your schedule but are more useful for fine-tuning your schedule.
It is recommended to always define:
Schedule
Project
Deadline
This will ensure that tasks are placed in the relevant spots and at the right times.
You can fine-tune the placement of tasks with the additional parameters, which include:
Duration
Priority
Start Date
Blockers
Frequency
Duration: Defines the amount of time you expect a task will take.
Shortcuts: 30m, 25 m, 1h, 3 h, etc.
Priority: Tells TurboHog where this falls on your list of priorities, which helps determine the order tasks are scheduled in.
Shortcuts: p1, p2, p3, p4, critical, high, medium, low
Schedule: The schedule the task should be scheduled in.
Project: The project the task should be assigned to.
Shortcut: ‘#ProjectName’
Color: Set a one-off custom color for a specific task, otherwise determined by the project color.
Start Date: Tells TurboHog the day that you want to start working on a specific task. By default, it will set to today.
Shortcut: ‘start DATE/DAY’
Deadline: The date a task must be completed by. Setting this will prioritize this over tasks that have a later due date.
Shortcut: ‘DATE/DAY’
Blocked by: For tasks that cannot be started/completed until another task is already done.
Example: If you need to clean the trough before you can feed the hogs, you can create two tasks, one blocked by the other.
Feed the Hogs would be blocked by Clean the Trough
Repeats: Can toggle if a task is recurring or a single instance.
Options: Daily, Weekly, Biweekly, Monthly, Every 3 Months
Once you have the parameters for a task set, you can create the task with the ‘Create Task’ button at the bottom, or you can use the keyboard shortcut “CMD/CTRL S” to save the task and create it.
